Role Overview

Drive Groupon's AI-First Cloud Transformation. Are you a visionary leader with deep technical expertise in cloud infrastructure? Groupon is undergoing a major technological evolution, putting Artificial Intelligence at the core of our future. We're hiring a Director of DevOps/Infrastructure to lead our ~40-person department, powering our ~300 engineers. This is a chance to make a tangible, transformational impact on a global scale.

This isn't a "keep the lights on" role. It's a strategic mandate to build a highly automated, AI-optimized, resilient, and cost-efficient platform. Your mission is to achieve our North Star: a cost-optimized, AI-driven, self-healing, and predictive cloud platform. What You'll Be Accountable For:

• Strategic & Financial Leadership: Own the Cloud Platform roadmap, driving cost-efficiency. Manage multi-million dollar budgets, championing frugality, and integrating AIOps and AI-driven cost management to build an intelligent, optimized platform. Partner with the C-suite on strategy and risk.
• Technical & Architectural Ownership: Lead technical direction for Cloud Operations (GCP, AWS), Kubernetes, Service Mesh (Envoy/Istio), Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, NoSQL), and CI/CD (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker, Terraform, GitOps). Maintain deep technical expertise, guiding architectural decisions and performing "deep dives" when needed. Improve developer experience through reliability and self-service.
• People & Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and scale a high-performing, global ~40-person organization with the plan to lead a combination of AI Agents and people. Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, and a bias for action, motivating teams through significant transformation. Drive hiring and professional development.

We're Looking For:

• Proven Executive Leader: 5+ years leading 20+ person global infrastructure, cloud, or SRE organizations, with a track record of building high-performing teams.
• AI Visionary & Practitioner: Demonstrated experience applying AI/ML concepts to solve real-world infrastructure problems (e.g., AIOps, predictive cost models, AI for security, or building AI agent infrastructure). This is a core competency.
• Technical Authority: Deep, hands-on expertise in our core technologies.
• Financially Astute: Managed multi-million dollar cloud budgets with a track record of significant cost efficiencies (GCP preferred).
• Strategic Communicator: Effectively articulate complex technical concepts to both technical teams and C-level executives.
• Results-Oriented: Thrives under pressure, consistently driving improvement.
• Adaptable: Quickly navigates complex, evolving technical landscapes.
• Languages: English (advanced).

• Orchestration & Routing: Kubernetes (including custom operators), Envoy/Istio Service Mesh
• Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Kafka (Cassandra/NoSQL a plus)
• CI/CD & Code: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker, Terraform, GitOps
• Languages: Java, Go, Node.js, Ruby on Rails, React
• Observability: ELK Stack, Grafana, Prometheus
• Project Management: Jira, Confluence, Asana

What Success Looks Like:

• Within 1 Month: Deliver an "AI-Augmented State of the Union"—a data-backed assessment of our technology, processes, people, and costs—identifying immediate risks and AI-driven quick wins.
• Within 3 Months: Formulate a 6-12 month strategic roadmap based on Predictive Reliability, Intelligent Cost Management, and AI-Augmented Developer Velocity. Establish new AI-driven KPIs and launch high-impact AI pilots.
• Within 6 Months: Drive execution, reporting quantifiable progress towards cloud cost reduction (20%+ run rate), improved platform availability, and tangible value from your AI initiatives.
