We have a fantastic opportunity for a Environments Manager to join our new and innovative project.
The Environments Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of consistent, repeatable network automation environments up to production. This includes local development environments, lab environments hosted in our Bradford facility, and the pre-production environment. The role ensures these environments are stable, scalable, and optimised to support developer squads across Digital Network Products. The Environments Manager plays a critical role in enabling the organisation’s network automation strategy by ensuring environments are robust, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
Your role:
Key responsibilities include:
Manage and maintain network automation environments, including local developer environments, lab environments (in UK), and the pre-production environment.
Ensure environments are consistent, repeatable, and aligned with development team requirements.
Oversee environment lifecycle management, including budgeting, resource allocation, setup, configuration, upgrades, and decommissioning.
Collaborate with Agile squads, network engineers, and automation developers to support environment readiness and reliability.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management automation using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet.
Monitor environment performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability.
Plan for capacity growth and optimise resource utilisation across environments.
Document configurations and changes within lower environments.
Ensure all documentation meets compliance and audit requirements, particularly for production environment changes.
Define and document requirements for physical environment needs, including hardware procurement, vendor management, and facility planning
Requirements:
Strong background in network automation and environments management.
Hands-on experience with Cisco NSO or similar network automation platforms (eg Netbox, Itential, Gluware, Nornir, NetBrain).
Solid understanding of networking protocols such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and IP management
Experience with virtualisation and emulation tools such as GNS3, EVE-NG, or VMware.
Proficiency with environment automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and CI/CD platforms (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
Knowledge about OpenShift / Kubernetes
Good knowledge of Python
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex technical issues
Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with effective verbal and written communication skills
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly within Agile frameworks.
Degree in Computer Science, Networking, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Cisco certifications ( CCNP, DevNet Professional) or relevant network automation credentials.
Experience in telco networks, including 5G, SDN, or NFV technologies.
Experience in large-scale infrastructure projects, such as multi-site deployments or global network rollouts.
Excellent English skills
Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities, with experience mentoring or managing technical teams.
Ability to business travel (time to time, 4 times per year) to UK
