Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) is looking for an Assistant Division Chief to take a leadership role in managing our Technical Services and Support division. This is a unique opportunity to directly manage staff, oversee the operation that powers a 12-branch system, and work with the Division Chief to direct a $2.1 million collection budget. About This Role
The Assistant Division Chief plays a key leadership role in the Materials Services Division, providing oversight, guidance, and strategic direction to multiple units. This position directly supervises and supports four paraprofessionals in the Cataloging Unit, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established cataloging policies and standards.
The Assistant Division Chief also manages the Physical Processing and Courier Unit Supervisors, coordinating daily operations and workflow to maintain efficient materials handling and delivery across the library system.
Working closely with the Division Chief, this position helps shape and implement overall Materials Services policies, procedures, and priorities, including participation in budget management and spending allocation decisions for materials.
Additionally, the Assistant Division Chief oversees the library’s subscription databases, ensuring they are effectively maintained, accessible, and aligned with the system’s collection goals and user needs.
Minimum Requirements
Master’s Degree in library or information science
2 years public library experience
1 year supervisory experience
Preferences
Preferred candidates will demonstrate a combination of leadership, management, and technical services experience.
Experience In
Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00-5:00.
Hiring Salary Range: $82,777.50-$96905.25 / yearly
